Accessibility Modifications of This Site

We all know that classrooms today come with students of all different shapes and sizes. They also come with a multitude of different learning strategies, special needs, students with handicaps and children who simply learn in different ways. It is important to consider and include all types of students and all types of learning so that we may promote education and learning among children. It is important to understand ancient civilizations, such as ancient Greece, so that we may appreciate and understand our roots. By providing students with the means to grasp a lesson, they can feel included, important, and appreciative.
This website is easily accessible by a diverse population in that it takes into consideration students with different learning styles and needs. Each page specific to this website includes a caption or title, summary of a topic or an idea, and information as to why that element of Greek life is important. This allows students to understand and read up on interesting key aspects of life in ancient Greece.
For students who  may learn better with visual aid versus text, each page or idea also includes a picture portraying that lesson or concept. For example, the page titled "Food" comes with a picture of a typical food (nuts) that would have been eaten during this time. By connecting a visual with a concept, students can better understand what it is they are learning.
For students who may have trouble hearing, everything is mapped out with text and graphics so that they are not dependent on sound alone. The videos in this website are included with this in  mind as they are easily understood with or without audio.
While there are many steps that can be taken to account for all types of learners, it is not possible to encompass all needs. For students with visionary handicaps or needs, a teacher might want to modify the lesson on ancient Greece so that it would include learning aspects that are not as dependent on graphics and images as well as text.
