Architecture in Ancient Greece

Today, families live together under one roof. Sometimes families live among separate houses if parents are divorced or separated. Well, in ancient Greece, divorce was unheard of, however, men and women lived in separate parts of the house. Most houses during this time were built from stone and clay. The roofs were made and covered with tiles or reeds and they had usually one or two stories. Houses were always planned and built around a courtyard. People in ancient Greece were health conscious compared to many people today- they thrived on outdoor activities and enjoyed their beautiful surroundings in such a courtyard. Houses had high walls and a strong front gate to symbolize power and solidification.
